Dream Team Competition > CM 2008: Joseph's Dream Team

Goalkeeper:

Closely fought between Petr Cech and Iker Casillas but Casillas edges it due to his significantly lower eccentricity compared to Cech meaning he is less likely to do something stupid which could be game changing. In addition his bravery means he isn't afraid to charge a player down in a one on one or collect the ball from a crowded penalty area during a corner. Moreover his consistency means he produces world class performances on a regular basis.

Defence:

I place great emphasis on having full backs which can defend but most importantly attack and bomb forward to the byline beyond the wingers. Gareth Bale is my left back as he has the defensive capabilities to cope with the best of wingers. His pace and tackling ability aid this. Most importantly his attacking attributes make him my choice over the likes of Ashley Cole and Clichy. His pin point crosses and dribbling ability are a great asset to the winger in front of him and most importantly the team. Moreover his ability with a dead ball mean i wont be short of players who can take a free kick in this team. My right back or should i say right mid because he's always bombing forward is the player who loves to look for overlaps Phillip Lahm. His pace, tackling and crossing ability make him the perfect right back. Phillip Lahm stood out as he has something which most full backs lack flair!!! This is important in my team as my team needs to play the game the right way, with grace. My centre back pairing is that of Mr Chelsea John Terry and Hamburg's young starlet Vincent Kompany. Both have great aerial ability so will be a nuisance to opposing defenders at corners. John Terry what can you say about this great defender its not his technical capabilities or intelligence which made me choose him. It was his temperament. Terry consistency and leadership drew me to choosing him. He is ever reliable and knows how to lead his team. I almost picked Puyol ahead of him but Terry was too consistent. Terry lacks the pace needed to catch strikers who play off the last defender. This is why I chose Kompany. He has pace and acceleration something most central defenders lack. Aswell as being physically imposing his aerial prowess attracted him to me. Moreover his ability to be able to hit a long shot means watching this team will never be boring.

Midfield:

Dunga said the player who played this position is the piano carrier. Plaudits always go to the wingers and strikers but much of the praise should be reserved for the piano carrier or what we all know it to be the defensive midfielder. Gennaro Gattuso was my clear choice. His superb work rate and team work made him my top choice he plays for the team and this is what a player in this team should do. He has superb tackling ability so can break up and stifle attacks. Moreover if required he could perform a superb man marking job on any player keeping them quiet for the whole 90 minutes. In addition his passing ability make him key to my team. With his great passing ability he can easily feed the ball to the more creative midfielders. My centre midfield partnership consists of Xabi Alonso and Diego. Alonso is my deeper lying of the two central midfielders. Xabi Alonso is the one of a select few players in championship manager which can perform the Hollywood pass. His ball distribution, creativity and vision make him vital in this team. In addition his work rate and team work are essential to my team where the philosophy is to play the game the Barcelona way. Moreover he can crack long shots into the back of the net which could be hand against stubborn defences, being a great dead ball specialist make him the first choice for free kicks. I could have chose Xavi, Iniesta, Gerrard the list goes on but this player userps them all. Diego!!! This boy is a fantastic creative force who could thread a ball through the eye of a needle. Moreover as well as being a handy ball distributor he is a great dribbler with superb flair. There is never a dull moment with the determined Diego. All the play goes through these three midfielders especially Diego and Alonso.

Attack:

Many people would pick McGeady to play on the left wing but not me!!!! I've gone for David Silva the reason being positioning. McGeady lacks good positional awareness whereas David Silva has this in abundance. His dribbling ability, pace and finishing ability make him a definite in my side. He is one of few wingers who can boast aerial prowess. McGeady certainly can't. This makes Silva a threat in and around the box from crosses from the opposite wing and corners and also makes him useful when defending corners. His ability to be able to defend with his superb tackling ability takes the pressure off the left back who also loves to attack. Most people would have chosen Ronaldo for the right wing but his lack of teamwork mean he's not welcome in my team. I've gone for another Valencia winger!! Joaquin. His pace dribbling and crossing ability make him perfect for the side. Plus he has what most wingers don't teamwork ability. My team needs to play as one and Joaquin most certainly does this. His superb work rate mean he can cover the whole right wing with ease. Moreover his flair adds to the beauty of my teams play. There's only one striker who you know will never miss a chance and his name is Ruud Van Nistelrooy. The penalty taker of the team. My clear choice. Apart from his obvious brilliant stats such as his finishing and aerial ability. Ruud has determination. He has the determination to always keep going. Moreover he has no teamwork and this is what I want from a striker. To be greedy and take every opportunity when it arises. Ruud is a guaranteed 40 goal a season man and in this team he'll always get opportunities to score.

We will soon be starting work on our new CM 2010 section, which should be up within the next week.

I hope to build up some comprehensive lists of all the best players, tactics, set pieces routines and training schedules.

I am also hoping to start a new Lower League Section, with help and guides for those who chose to start their managerial careers further down the footballing ladder.

If anyone is interested in helping with the Lower League section or any other area of the site, then please send me an e-mail at jonathan@champ-man.com
