CM 2008 > Guides > Club League Guides > English Championship > Norwich City

First Team: David Marshall, Darren Huckerby, Luke Chadwick

Reserve/Youth Team:

The Norwich board expect a struggle to stay afloat in the Championship. It is easy to see why when you look at their squad. There one saving grace may be that they have a reasonable 1.2m to spend bringing in new players.

In goal, it will be a toss up between two solid performers in Marshall and Gilks. However, the rest of the defensive unit leaves a lot to be desired. Norwich are crying out for a quality centre back and right back to shore up a defence which is sparse of any quality players asides from Drury, whilst Shackell is also a reasonable player. Although they are short on numbers at the back, it may be an idea to begin rebuilding by selling the likes of Doherty and Lappin.

Lee Croft is a decent young prospect in midfield, who is ably assisted by the versatile Huckerby and Murray. What Norwich really need is a strong holding midfielder who can take a hold of games. Players such as Brellier and Eagle should be deemed surplus to requirements.

Norwich are extremely lightweight up front in terms of quality. Whilst the likes of Dublin, Cureton, Brown and Strihavka should be able to do a job at this level, none of them are the out and out goal scorer that Norwich so desperately need. It would be advisable to spend a sizable portion of your transfer budget in improving this area.

Overall, it could turn out to be a tough season for any prospective Norwich manager. Whilst boasting a mixture of poor and average players with little genuine quality, they also have a sizable transfer budget for a team in the Championship. This should see them avoid relegation, and if invested prudently, possibly mount a challenge further up the table.

CM FOCUS

CM 2010 section
We will soon be starting work on our new CM 2010 section, which should be up within the next week.

I hope to build up some comprehensive lists of all the best players, tactics, set pieces routines and training schedules.

I am also hoping to start a new Lower League Section, with help and guides for those who chose to start their managerial careers further down the footballing ladder.

If anyone is interested in helping with the Lower League section or any other area of the site, then please send me an e-mail at jonathan@champ-man.com
