CM 2008 > Guides > Club League Guides > English Championship > Watford

First Team: Mart Poom, Jay DeMerit, Danny Shittu, Alhassan Bangura, Jobi McAnuff, Marlon King, Nathan Ellington

Reserve/Youth Team:

As a club who have just been relegated from the Premiership, Watford still possess a side with enough quality to be a force in the Championship. Couple this with a decent 1.5m transfer budget and it should be possible to achieve the boards aim of automatic promotion.

In goal, Mart Poom is a quality goalkeeper who should be able to deal well with even the best strikers in the Championship. The defensive unit would be the one slight cause for concern. Despite having quality centre backs in DeMerit and Mackay, they don’t have particularly good cover in the full back areas, with Stewart and Mariappa being average players.

They have a great deal of quality in the midfield department. The likes of Banguara, McAnuff, Mahon and Francis should form a strong unit across the middle and the young Argentinean loan player Aloi also possesses some talent. Watford should have enough quality in their midfield to do well in this division without any major changes needed. However, it might be an idea to get rid of weak players such as Williamson as a cost cutting exercise.

Watford boast one of the most potent attacking units in the division. Any one of the likes of King, Ellington, Henderson or Priskin should be able to score enough goals to help you mount a promotion charge, it will just be a matter of finding the best partnership.

Overall, anything other than automatic promotion would be seen as a failure for Watford. They have one of the strongest squads in the league as well as a decent transfer kitty with which to add reinforcements. Watford managers can realistically target a title win.

CM FOCUS

CM 2010 section
We will soon be starting work on our new CM 2010 section, which should be up within the next week.

I hope to build up some comprehensive lists of all the best players, tactics, set pieces routines and training schedules.

I am also hoping to start a new Lower League Section, with help and guides for those who chose to start their managerial careers further down the footballing ladder.

If anyone is interested in helping with the Lower League section or any other area of the site, then please send me an e-mail at jonathan@champ-man.com
