Juventus
First Team: Gianluigi Buffon, Andrade, Pavel Nedved,
Alessandro Del Piero, David Trezeguet
Reserve/Youth Team: Sebastian Giovinco
It is Juventus’ first season back in Serie A following their demotion to Serie B
as part of the match fixing scandal. Having kept a lot of their better players,
they are still a force and the board expects them to achieve European
qualification as a minimum requirement.
They have arguably the best goalkeeper in the world in Buffon, he is ably
deputised for by Novembre, who is an excellent prospect. They have a strong
defensive unit, with the likes of Andrade, Boumsong, Zebina and Chiellini being
quality players. Criscito is also a good young prospect who should provide
adequate back up. The one problem area would be a right back, where the current
players - Grygera and Birindelli - are not of the standard of the rest of the
defence.
The midfield is lead by Pavel Nedved, who is a world class attacking midfielder.
He is well complemented by the likes of Almiron, Tiago and Camoranesi in a
balanced and strong looking midfield unit. There is also good strength in depth
with a lot of quality young players, such as Nocerino, Palladino and Olivera.
The strike force of Trezeguet and Del Piero should prove to be a potent one.
However, with only Iaquinta as back up, it will be necessary to bring in
reinforcements in this area in order to accommodate for any injuries that may be
picked up by what is an ageing frontline.
If Juventus can bring in some quality players with the 9.25 million they have
available for transfers, then European football - if not a push for the title -
is a realistic possibility.
